Suno Speech Beta: What It Is, How It Works & Who It's For
A first look at Suno's beta mode that generates spoken voice and background music as one track.
Updated: October 12, 2026
The 60-second verdict
Suno Speech (public beta since October 1, 2026) is the first audio mode that generates a spoken voice and its background music as one cohesive track — no mixing required. It's a genuinely fun sketchpad for scored narration: bedtime stories, hype speeches, meditations. But it's an honest beta: accents can drift mid-sentence, pauses can get theatrical, and there's no precise timing control. Great playground; not yet a professional voiceover replacement.
What it is
Suno, best known as an AI song generator, added a new Speech mode to its Create screen (web, iOS, Android). Instead of generating a song, you give it words — a script, a poem, an idea — plus a description of the voice and the music you want. It returns a single audio track: narration with an original score baked in.
Suno's chief product officer calls it "the first audio model that generates voice and music together as one cohesive track." The practical difference vs. the usual workflow: normally you'd generate speech in one tool (say, ElevenLabs), generate music in another, then mix them. Speech collapses that into one generation.
Two modes:
- Simple mode — describe what you want in one line and Speech writes the words too.
- Advanced mode — you paste your own script and control voice gender, speaking style, and take-to-take variety.
There's also a toggle to switch the music off entirely, so the mode doubles as a plain text-to-speech generator. Tracks can run up to about eight minutes.
How it works (from the public beta)
1. Open Create in Suno (update the mobile app if Speech doesn't appear) and pick the Speech mode. 2. Paste your script — or type a one-line idea in Simple mode and let it draft the words. 3. Describe the speaker concretely: age range, vocal texture, emotion, accent, pace. (Tip from early testers: avoid asking it to imitate a real person's voice.) 4. Describe the soundtrack separately: instruments, mood, intensity, how far behind the voice it should sit. 5. Generate more than one take. It's a beta — the second take is often more useful than a long stack of corrective prompts. 6. Listen against your source text before publishing anything: check for dropped or changed words, accent shifts, over-long pauses, and the voice/music balance.
Pricing
Suno has not announced Speech-specific pricing. Generations draw on the same credits as song generation, and downloads count against the same monthly caps reported for paid plans (20/month on Pro, 60/month on Premier, per early coverage). The beta itself is open to the whole community, not locked to one tier. Because it's still in beta, treat any plan detail as subject to change — Suno's own pricing page is the source of truth.
Pros & cons
Pros
- One generation = voice + scored music. Nothing to mix.
- Genuinely expressive results for creative, personal audio (stories, poems, meditations, hype speeches).
- Music-off toggle makes it a usable plain narrator too.
- Up to ~8 minutes per track — enough for Shorts narration, ads, and social clips.
- Open beta: anyone with a Suno account can try it.
Cons
- Beta rough edges, documented by Suno itself: accents can drift (a requested British accent may wander), and "dramatic pauses may be very dramatic."
- No control over exact length or word-level timing yet.
- Not a broadcast-grade narration tool — inconsistent voices and pronunciation make it unsuitable for unattended professional publishing.
- No public affiliate program and no API announced so far.
Who it's for
- Short-form creators who want a narrated clip with a mood, fast — the exact use case our Shorts workflow targets.
- Parents and teachers: bedtime stories over soft piano is one of Suno's own example use cases, and it's genuinely charming.
- Marketers: hype speeches and ad reads with stadium-style energy, no editing.
- Skip it for now if you need a consistent brand voice, exact pronunciation (names, numbers), or frame-accurate timing. Use a dedicated TTS tool instead — see below.
FAQ
Is Suno Speech free? The beta is open to the whole Suno community; generations use your plan's existing credits. There's no separate Speech price announced.
How long can a Speech track be? About eight minutes max, per early reports — suited to short-form content, not audiobooks.
Can I turn the music off? Yes. A toggle generates plain narration with no score.
Which languages are supported? Suno hasn't published a language list for the beta. English is the documented case; a British-accent request was Suno's own example (with the caveat that accents may drift).
Does Suno Speech have an affiliate program? Not publicly, as of this writing. That's why this article has no Suno affiliate links.
Final verdict
Suno Speech is the most fun audio beta of the month: the moment a pause in your narration lands exactly on a swell in the music — with zero editing — you get why Suno built it. Treat it as a sketchpad, generate multiple takes, and don't ship anything without listening first. For polished, consistent voiceover you still want a specialist tool.
